WINDOWS VISTA 32-BIT SUPPORT FOR CURRENT LAVA BOARDS

This document identifies support and requirements for LAVA boards operating in Vista 32-bit.

NOTE: Differences exist between chipset versions of the same board. Identify your particular chipset/board combination and choose the appropriate case below.

CASE 1: S3/S4 ASIC

All LAVA PCI boards with an S3/S4 ASIC are supported for Vista 32-bit operation. LAVA boards with an "S3/S4" ASIC have a chip with the text "PN MOKO - S3/S4" and a LAVA logo silkscreened onto them. Some of these boards also require "mf.sys" installation. Details are provided below.

CASE 2: S2 ASIC

Some LAVA PCI boards with an S2 ASIC are supported for Vista 32-bit operation.LAVA boards with an "S2" ASIC have a chip with the text "PN MOKO - S2" and a LAVA logo silkscreened onto them. Some of these boards also require "mf.sys" installation. Details are provided below.

CASE 3: S1 ASIC

No LAVA PCI boards with an S1 ASIC are supported in Vista. LAVA boards with an "S1" ASIC have a chip with the text "PN MOKO - S1" and a LAVA logo silkscreened onto them. Details are provided below.

CASE 4: Xilinx chip

Some LAVA PCI boards with a square Xilinx chip are supported for Vista 32-bit operation. LAVA boards with a Xilinx chip have a chip with the text "Xilinx" silkscreened onto them. One of these boards also requires "mf.sys" installation. Details are provided below.

CASE 5: ISA board

All LAVA ISA boards are supported in Vista. Details are provided below.

"MF.SYS" INSTALLATION

A number of LAVA devices install ports as multifunction devices. The software support in Windows Vista for multifunction devices was however omitted by Microsoft in Windows Vista, where it had been included by default in earlier Windows versions. For multifunction devices to install properly in Windows Vista, users first must download and install Microsoft's "mf.sys" file according to the instructions available on the Microsoft web site at:

As the hardware requirements of Windows Vista prevent some legacy LAVA products from operating, we do not support these products under warranty in this environment and will not in the future.
